The aim of this study is to determine the agents of community acquired urinary infection in Konya and the resistance rates of amoxicillin-clavulanic acid, ciprofloxacin, co-trimoxazole, gentamicin and ceftriaxone. The study was done in laboratory of ?Private Konya Hospital? between December 2004 and August 2005. The urine samples producing 105 bacterial colonies and uppers were taken in to consideration. Antibiograms were evaluated by Kirby-Bauer disk diffusion method according to zone diameter. Cultured bacteria were determined whether they are resistant or susceptible to the antibiotics chosen. In our study, it is shown that the E. coli is the most frequently isolated uropathogen. Resistance of uropathogens to the antibiotics were examined. In E. coli pathogen while the resistance rates of amoxicillin-clavulanic acid and co-trimoxazole were determined as higher, the resistance rates of ceftriaxone and ciprofloxacin were determined as lower. In conclusion, for the prevention of resistance development, it is compulsory to avoid from the irregular and unnecessary antibiotic usage. In Konya, because of the higher resistance rates, it can be recommended that the co-trimoxazole should be withdrawn from the protocol of the medical treatment of urinary infections and the usage of ciprofloxacin should be restricted
