In this study, we have investigated the effects of trans-9 18:1 octadecenoic acid isomer on systemic inflammatuary markers, insulin, troponin and homocystein in rats. For this purpose, totally 45 male rats were used. The rats were divided into two groups as control (20 rats) and study group (25 rats). To the study group 50 mg / day of elaidic acid was given for a period of 10 days. At the end of that period blood samples of the rats were collected by intracardiac puncture under ether anesthesia. Serum fatty acids, CRP, troponin, TNF-?, IL-6, ınsulin and homocystein levels we measured. CRP and TNF-? levels of the study group were significantly increased whereas insulin and homocystein levels were decreased than the same parameters of the control group. There was no significant difference between IL-6 and troponin levels of the groups. It was concluded that dietary consumption of unsaturated trans fatty acids may result in coronary heart defficiency, ınsulin resistance and diabes by activating systemic inflammation
