Bu çalışma, Manisa ilinde karşılaşılan bitki koruma yöntemlerinin uygulamadaki sorunlarının belirlenmesi amacıyla ele alınmıştır. Bu amaçla 2008 yılında çalışma alanında 50 adet zirai ilaç bayiine 42 soru, 75 adet üreticiye 37 soru ve 50 adet teknik elemana 43 sorudan oluşan anket çalışması yapılmıştır. Elde edilen sonuçlara göre üreticilerin %48 i bitki koruma konularındaki tavsiyeleri ilgili teknik elemanlardan alırken, %52 si ilaç bayi ve komşu üreticilerden almışlardır. Üreticilerden %64 ünün etikette belirtilen doz oranında ilaç kullandıkları, %65 inin boş ilaç ve gübre atıklarını yakıp imha ettikleri, %72 sinin ilaçlamadan sonra gereken bekleme süresine uyarak mahsulünü hasat ettikleri ve %50 sinin ilaç uygulamaları sırasında eldiven, maske, gözlük gibi herhangi bir koruyucu önlem aldıkları ortaya çıkmıştır. Çiftçiler bitki koruma sorunlarının çözümünde genellikle kimyasal savaş yöntemini tercih etmekte olup, bilinçsiz pestisit uygulamaları beraberinde insan ve çevre sağlığı açısından birçok olumsuzlukları gündeme getirmektedir. Çalışmada elde edilen sonuçlar insan ve çevresel beklentiler açısından değerlendirilerek çözüm önerileri tartışılmıştır.
