In this thesis, environmental noise together with primary noise conditions in mining have been evaluated in detail. Effect of noise to the healt of human beings and the legal settings put into operation in Turkey and in the world have also been mentioned. Additionally, environmental factors affecting the noise dispersion have been defined by the use of experimental set up installed for this purpose. Following that, experimental works have been carried out to ascertain the dispersion mechanism of the noise in the open fields. During this work, experiments were realized in a field having 10000 m2 area purified from any noise on 121 survey stations with 7 different frequency values. Meteorological factors such as temperature, humidity, pressure, velocity and direction of wind were also taken into consideration. In addition, the dispersion of the noise in different levels composed on purpose was examined. The effect of the noise waves reflected from any surface was experimental investigated. Hereafter, application of experimental works was made on an open cast mine. After the sources of noise at open cast mines were assessed by the usage of the experimental data, the equivalent level of noise (Leq) was calculated for each source of noise. Nevertheless, an estimation model was developed aimed at finding how the noise is dispersed at an open cast mine. By the utilization of this model, noise map of the open cast mine was drawn. It was the scope of this work to give the map of noise together which was obtained through in-situ measurements and from the model developed. The correlations are obtained such as 0.9884 for the dispersion of the noise depending on the distance, 0.90015 for the reflected waves of noise, 0.56580 for the effect of meteorological factors and 0.62976 for the effect of multiple sources of noise respectively and expressed in the model work. 312 survey stations were set up at the Panel 48 of Tuncbilek open cast mine, Western Lignite Corporation (WLC) where the noise model was applied. While recording the noise data at these stations, atmospheric conditions were also recorded from the meteorological station installed in-situ. Approximately 95000 values of noise were recorded from these stations. By the use of the program Netcad 4.0, the map of noise was drawn after the transformation of the noise data to the equivalent levels of noise. The distances of the survey stations to the bench slopes, to the haul roads and the sources of noises were first determined. However, the data were used in a formula together with the atmospheric data in order to introduce the noise levels expected in any area of the open cast mine by the employment of the model developed during this work.
