İkinci alt gruplara sodyum hidroksit anodizasyonu, kalan örneklere EDM (EDM M25 A) uygulandı.
The aim of this study was to determine the effect of sandblasting, sodium hydroxide anodization and electrical discharge machining (EDM) to cast titanium surfaces and titanium- porcelain adhesion. For titanium specimens, ninety specimens were prepared with autopolymerizing acrylic resin by using special stainless steel molds. Specimens with 25x3x0.8 mm dimensions were cast with commercially pure titanium (Tritan). Castings were divested and removed a-case layer by a universal grinding machine (FV-315-V/2). Titanium specimens were randomly divided into 3 groups to use with different low-fusing porcelains. Ten specimens from each of groups were sandblasted with alumina particles according to the low-fusing porcelain manufacturers' instructions. The sodium hydroxide anodization were applied to the second subgroups, specimens that which remains were subjected to the EDM (EDM M25A). For control group, 10 autopolymerizing acrylic resin specimens (25x3x0.5 mm) were cast by using NiCrMo alloy (Remanium CS) and sandblasted with alumina particles according to the manufacturer' instructions. The surface roughness of randomly selected five specimens (Ra) were measured with a surface profilometer (Mitutoyo Surftest-B and Surftest 402 Analyzer) after each surface treatment and surface examinations were made by using a scanning electronic microscope (SEM; Jeol JSM-5600). Three titanium porcelains (Vita Titankeramik, Noritake Super Porcelain TI-22 and Vita Titankeramik, Noritake Super Porcelain TI-22 and Triceram) was fused on the titanium surfaces whereas NiCrMo specimens were covered a conventional low- fusing porcelain (Vita Omega 900). 93 The metal-porcelain bonding was characterized by a 3 -point bending test. The metal- porcelain interfaces were characterized by SEM. Kruskal-Wallis and Mann- Whitney U tests were used to compare of the bond strengths and the Ra values. Comparison to the 3 -point bending test results, the bond strength of NiCrMo- conventional low-fusing porcelain was higher than that of the titanium-porcelain systems. All groups exceeded 25 MPa that the lower limit of the bond strength value for ISO 9693:1999, except Noritake Super Porcelain TI-22 and Triceram groups on which EDM was applied. It was found that there were no significant differences between the bond strengths of the titanium groups on which sandblasting and sodium hydroxide anodization was applied (p>0.05). The bond strength values ranged in decreasing order as: Sandblasting-sodium hydroxide anodization-EDM. Compared to the groups on which sandblasting was applied, the lower Ra values were found for groups on which sodium hydroxide anodization was applied. EDM showed statistically maximum the Ra value (p<0.05). The inverse proportion between Ra values and bond strengths was showed that the Ra value can not provide a enough data about to the increased surface area/decreased surface area. Compared to the other groups, Noritake Super Porcelain TI-22 groups on which sandblasting with 50 um alumina and degassing was applied was a maximum bond strength values, except the group on which EDM was applied. In our study, the surface on which EDM was applied had a different image of the surface that of the other surface treatments. The interfaces images in all groups was seen a good adhesion between the metal and porcelain.
