Kömür, yeraltı ve yerüstünde çıkarıldığı şekliyle satılabildiği gibi, çoğunlukla bazı fiziksel özelliklerinin iyileştirilmesi için kömür hazırlama tesislerinde işlendikten sonra satılabilmektedir. Ancak tüm yıl üretildiği halde enerji üretim tesislerinin kullanımı dışında, ev ve işyeri ısıtma işlemi için genellikle kış aylarına girişte satılabilmektedir. Bu nedenle, çoğu zaman stoklanmak zorundadır. Ayrıca, enerji üretiminde sürekliliği sağlamak için, enerji üretim tesisleri de sürekli olarak stoklu çalışmaktadırlar. Bunların dışında dışalım yoluyla temin edilen kömürlerde, iç dağıtımdan önce büyük miktarlarda stoklanmaktadır. Uzun süreli olarak kömürün stoklanması sırasında, kömürün kalorisinde azalma ve kendiliğinden yanma olayları büyük sorunlar oluşturmaktadır. Bu nedenle, Garp Linyitleri İşletmesi'nin kömür stok sahasında bulunan üretim fazlası kömürler üzerinde çalışmalar yapılmıştır. Stok sahasında 18-50 mm tane boyutunda, uzunluğu 10 m, eni 5 m ve yüksekliği 3 m olan değişik zamanlarda iki adet kömür yığını oluşturulmuştur. Hazırlanan bu stoğun içinde belirli noktalara, sıcaklık farklarım algılayabilecek 20 adet sıcaklık sensörü, 1 adet hava nemi ve 1 adet de hava sıcaklık sensörü yerleştirilmiştir. Bu şekilde oluşturulan kömür yığınındaki ölçümleri, periyodik olarak bilgisayar yardımıyla otomatik olarak alabilmek amacıyla bir sistem oluşturulmuştur. Arazide oluşturulan bu stoktan, ölçümler her 5 dakikada bir alınmıştır. Ayrıca, el ile saat başlarında atmosfer basıncı, rüzgar hızı ve yönü değerleri alınmıştır. Daha sonra arazi ölçümlerine çoklu regresyon analizleri uygulanmıştır. Kömür yığını üzerinde etkili olan parametrelerin hepsini yansıtacak şekilde istatistiksel model geliştirilmeye çalışılmıştır. Bu modelin R2 değerleri ortalama 0,85'lerde çıkmıştır. Deneysel çalışmaların teorik analizi için sonlu elemanlar metodu (SEM) kullanılmıştır. Deneysel çalışmaların bilgisayar ortamına tam olarak uyarlanabilmesi için ise gerçek yığının bütün özelliklerini ve ölçülerini yansıtabilecek şekilde bir model oluşturulmuştur. Bu modelden elde edilen sonuçlar, arazi ölçümleri ve istatistiksel analiz sonuçlan ile karşılaştırıldığında uygunluk göstermiştir. Yığm içinden sıcaklık ölçümü almak için oluşturulan 1. ve 2. yığında kalori değerleri 5124 ve 4758 kcal/kg iken, deney bittiğinde 4488 ve 4572 kcal/kg değerine düşmüştür. Ayrıca, stok tane boyut değerlerinde ortalama % 50 azalma olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Yapılan çalışmalara ilave olarak, İşletmenin kendi yaptığı stoklar üzerinde de sıcaklık ölçümleri yapılmış ve kalori değerinin 2646 kcal/kg olduğu görülmüştür. 11 Uzun süreli stoktaki kömürlerin beklemesi sonucunda oluşan boyut ve kalori düşüşleri, ciddi ekonomik kayıplar oluşturmaktadır. Stok sahalarında oluşturulan kömür yığm yüksekliğinin ve eninin düşük tutulmasıyla kendiliğinden tutuşmanın büyük ölçüde önlenebileceği belirlenmiştir. Yığının sıcaklığım etkileyen parametrelerden hava sıcaklığı, hava nemi ve atmosfer basıncı gibi parametrelerin kendiliğinden yanmada önemli etkileri olduğu görülmüştür.
The coal can be marketed as produced from either underground or open pit, however it is mostly presented to the consumers' service after some of its physical properties are upgraded in the coal washeries. Apart from the utilisation in power plants, it is usually sold just before the winter season for domestic usage. Therefore, it is generally kept in large stockyards for some period. Additionally, in order to keep the continuity in power production, power plants also work continuously having constant stocks of coal. Moreover, the export coal should also be kept in stocks in large amounts before it is distributed for domestic purposes. During long waiting periods, coal undergoes selfheating and losses its majority of calorific value. Therefore, in this work, an experimental search was carried out on the spontaneous combustion for the stockpiles formed by the excess of produced coal at Western Lignite Corporation (WLC). For this purpose, a stockpile having an average particle size of 18-50 mm with the dimensions of 10 m in length, 5 m in width and 3 m in height was established in the storage yard. A total of 20 heat sensors were located inside the pile together with a humidity sensor and a sensor to detect the weather temperature. Therefore, a system to take the necessary measurements in and out of the stockpile periodically was assembled. During this experimental work, the values in concern were taken once every five minutes. In addition, values for atmospheric pressure, velocity and direction of wind were also manually taken every hour. Hereafter, the multiple regression analysis was applied to the measurements taken from stockyard. A statistical model was additionally developed for the parameters affecting the stockpile. The R2 values of the model were around 85% in average. Theoretical analysis of the experimental works was performed by the utilization of Finite Elements Method (FEM). In order to exercise the experimental works on the computer, another model reflecting overall features of the pile was besides created. The results obtained from this model complied with the in-situ measurements and the statistical analysis results in a comparison. IV The temperature measurements taken from first and second stockpiles were 5124 and 4758 kcal/kg in the beginning while they were measured as 4488 and 4572 kcal/kg at the end of the work. Additionally, the average size of the coal lumps was almost decreased twice during this experimental work. However, the same measurements taken from the original stocks created by the colliery itself and it were found t hat t he calorific value of the coal was around 2646 kcal/kg. Therefore, the long lasting coal stocks result in serious economical losses. It was observed that the spontaneous combustion in the stockpiles of coal can be prevented by decreasing the height and the width of the pile. It was also observed that the weather temperature and humidity together with the atmospheric pressure affecting the heat of pile were effective parameters in the selfheating of the coal stockpiles.
