The Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) technique, which allows the orientation and placement of molecules in thin films of controlled thickness, has been used as a possible tool to electronic, magnetic and conducting properties. By means of the LB technique it is possible to transfer the monolayer from the water surface onto a solid substrate, and a well-oriented monomolecular film is formed. Langmuir films were formed at the air-water interface and were characterized by surface pressure vs mean molecular area per molecule unit (?-A) isotherms. Two processes occurring at the air-water interface dominate the mechanism of formation of these LB films, the instability of the coordination ligands at the air-water interface, with liberation of metal ions into the subphase and recoordination of metal ions in the subphase occurs at the interface. We present results concerning the formation of LB films of a triazine derivative compound (DIOXHDA and DIHAPA) at the air-water interface, and their structure as LB films when deposited on silicon wafer substrates. Surface morphology of the DIOXHDA (2,4-bis(o-oxyaniline)-6-(hexadecylamino)-1,3,5-triazine) and DIHAPA (2,4-bis(o-hydroxyamino)-6-(phenylamino)-1,3,5-triazine) deposited films was examined with atomic force microscopy (AFM), contact angle measurement, infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Finally, in this study we present a study of the conditions of preparation and characterization of LB films of triazine derivatives.
