Hayatını öğrenme ve öğretme amacıyla hizmet etmeye adamış M. Zeki ORAL 1901 ( 1317 H.) yılında Sinop'un Boyabat kazasına bağlı Nefsicuma köyünde dünyaya gelmiş, 1920 yılında Maarif teşkilatı bünyesinde, çok sevdiği öğretmenlik mesleğini icra etmeye başlamıştır. 42 yıl süren memuriyet hayatında, tarihe, özellikle Selçuklu, Beylikler ve Osmanlı dönemine ait Halk Bilimi, Halk Edebiyatı, Sanat Tarihi, Tarihi eserler ve Türk kültür tarihine katkı sağlayan eserleri geniş manasıyla, Türk Kültürü ile ilgili bilgileri günün birinde unutulup kaybolmasından endişe ederek derlemiştir. Bu eserlerin, korunması ve ortaya çıkarmasında özelikle her tür yapı, mezar taşı, kitap, çeşmelere ait kitabeleri okuyup değerlendirmiştir. Tarihi eserlerimizi, şahıslar elindeki Vakfiye, Berat, Ferman gibi vesikaların ortadan kaybolmalarını önlemek ve milli tarihimiz için birer sayfa olan bu orijinal eserleri kurtarmak ve neşretmek gibi büyük hizmetlerde bulunmuş, sonuçlarını ilim adamı vasfıyla tartışmış, o eseri yapanı, yaptıranı ve yapıldığı dönemin, siyasi, sosyal ve iktisadi yapısını kaynaklara dayanarak mukayeseli bir şekilde incelemiştir. ORAL görev yaptığı yerlerde sadece eğiticilik ve idarecilik değil, aynı zamanda yaşadığı şehrin tarihi, kültürel ve sanat eserleriyle büyük bir araştırmacı titizliğiyle yakından ilgilenmiş, daha çok Selçuklu dönemi Türk-İslam eserlerine ait incelemelerde bulunmuştur. Türk milletinin değerlerini araştırmayı ve öğretmeyi amaç edinmiş, adeta bu değerlere hayat vermiştir. Bu çalışma, M. Zeki ORAL'ın milli tarihimize olan hassasiyetini de ortaya koymaktadır.
M. Zeki ORAL, who devoted his life to endeavour for teaching and learning, was born in Nefsicuma, which is a small village of Sinop Boyabat, in 1901; and in 1920 he started to fulfill teaching profession, which he loves most, depending on Ministry of Education. In his 42 years old intendancy life, he has collected the historical informations, especially based in the era of Seljukian, seigniories and Ottoman, which are concerned with turkish culture; mainly contributed to folklore, folk literature, history of art, historical monuments, and history of turkish culture, with the anxiety of being lost or forgotten one day. He has interpreted all the structures, graves, books and inscriptions which belong to fountains, for protecting and revealing those monuments. He has done too many important devoirs such as, protecting, disseminating and preventing from disappearing, our historical monuments and private documents like deed of trusts, letters patents, imperial orders. He has discussed comparatively the consequences as a scientist and he analyse the people, whom made or to had him made the monument and the era when monument has made, referring to political, social and financial resources. ORAL, was not only a teacher or a executive in his permanent stations, he also has took a close interest in his home cities history, culture and historical monuments, he mainly has done some researches on Seljukian turkish islamic pieces. He has aimed to search and theach the turkish nations values, and he has almost vitalized those values. This work also exhibits his susceptibility to our national history.
