Ümeyyeoğullarından Mekke'nin reisi olan Ebû Süfyân'ın kızıdır. İlk eşi Esed b. Huzeyme kabilesinden Ubeydullah b. Cahş'tır. Eşi ile beraber İslâmiyeti ilk kabul edenlerden oldular. Müslüman olduktan sonra yapılan işkencelere dayanamayarak Habeşistan'a hicret ettiler. Eşi Ubeydullah Habeşistan'da İslamiyeti terkedip Hıristiyanlığa girince ondan ayrıldı. Hz. Peygamber Ümmü Habîbe'nin durumunu öğrenince Ümmü Habîbe ile evlenmek istedi. Hz. Peygamber ile Ümmü Habîbe'nin nikâhı Habeşistan'da yapıldı. Bu evlilik Hz. Peygamber ve aynı zamanda Müslümanlar ile Ebû Süfyân arasındaki ilişkilerin düzelmesine sebep olmuştur. Bunun neticesinde her iki taraf arasında dostluk kurulmuştur. Ümmü Habîbe Hz. Peygamber'den sonra Emevîler döneminde kardeşi Muaviye'nin hilâfeti zamanlarına kadar yaşamış H. 44/ M.664 senesinde vefat etmiştir.
She is daughter of Abu Sufyan, Head of Mecca from Umeyye tribe. Her first husband was Ubeydullah b. Cahş from Esed b. Huzeyme tribe. She accepted Islam as first Muslims together with her husband. After being Muslim, they went to Ethiopia because they couldn?t bear so much to tortures to Muslims. Her husband, Ubeydullah abandoned from Islam and became Christian in Ethiopia then she divorced from her husband. When Hz. Our Prophet learned the situation of Ummu Habîbe, he wanted to marry to Ummu Habîbe. The marriage ceremony of Our Prophet and Ummu Habîbe was performed in Ethiopia. This marriage cause to arrange the relations between Our Prophet, also Muslims and Abu Sufyân. Friendship was established between both parties due to this marriage. After death of Our Prophet, Ummu Habîbe lived until period of his brother Muaviye in Emevis Period. She died in H. 44/ M.664.
