Hat sanatı, İslam sanatları arasında önemli ve özel bir yere sahiptir. Bunun sebebi Kur'an-ı Kerim'e verilen değer sebebiyle onU daha güzel ve sanatlı yazma kaygısıdır. Bu sebepten yazı çok fazla değer görmüş ve birçok yazı çeşidi ortaya çıkmıştır. Bu yazı çeşitlerinden biri de araştırmaya konu olan Ma'kıli yazı çeşididir. Ma'kili Yazının Tasarım Özellikleri ve Kullanım Alanları konulu tez çalışması boyunca, yazının ortaya çıkışı, günümüze kadar ki süreçte gösterdiği gelişim incelenmiştir. Bu yazı çeşidinin Hat sanatı içerisinde farklı bir yere sahip olmasının, bu yazının özellikleri, tasarım yapılırken matematik hesapları gerektiren bir yazı çeşidi olmasının nedenleri, kompozisyon ve harf formlarındaki tasarım ve şekil farklılıkları gibi konular bu araştırma kapsamında değerlendirilerek yazının kullanıldığı yerler ve kullanım amaçları hat sanatı çerçevesinde ele alınarak incelenmiştir. Bunun yanında Ma'kıli yazının çok fazla bilinmemesi ve isim olarak ilk yazı çeşidi olan Kûfî yazı ile çok karıştırılması konusu üzerinde durulmuş ve bu iki yazı çeşidinin aralarındaki farklar hem yazı hem de harf şekilleri bakımından incelenmiş iki yazı tasarım ve uygulama açısından mukayese edilmiştir. Araştırma konusu olan Ma'kıli yazı, netice olarak uygulama ve teknik açısından geometrik aletler gerektirdiği için diğer yazı çeşitlerinden ayrı tutulur. Fakat bu yazı çeşidi de diğer yazılarla aynı hizmeti görmekte ve benzer amaçla kullanılmaktadır. Ma'kıli yazı geçmişte birçok yapıda kullanılmış olup günümüzde yapılan camilerde yine kullanılmaya devam etmektedir.
Calligraphy holds an important and special place in Islamic art. As a result of deep respect and honour to the Quran, Islam's sacred book, calligraphy developed in order to copy the Quran in a beautiful way. Thus Muslims valued calligraphy and they created many different writing styles. One of these different forms of calligraphy is Ma'qeli kufic also known as square Kufic which is subjected to this study. The purpose of this study is to examine how square kufic style developed and whether it made a progress or not. Furthermore, in this paper we will examine the reason why square kufic has a unique place among calligraphy styles, the writing features of square kufic style of calligraphy and the necessity of mathematics to design the writing style. Composition and letter forms in design and shape differences will be taken into consideration based on Islamic calligraphy art. Besides, ma'qeli writing is not well-known and there has been a confusion between the first writing style kufic and ma'qeli. In this study we aim to compare these two styles in terms of the design and the application of the writing. Ultimately, Ma'qeli kufic writing is different in terms of the application and the technique due to the reason that it requires some geometric tools. Thus Ma'qeli is dissociated from other writing styles and did not met with its approval. However, this writing style serves the same purpose just like others. Ma'qeli kufic has been used as the most modern writing of its time and it is still being used today in decoration of modern mosques.
