Ottoman Empire had provided its center’s contact with the provinces and the state’s
formal communication on main roads by means of ulak hükmü (messenger authority), system
of menzilhâne (posting house),in’âm hükmü ( in’âm authority), kiracıbaşılık and in the end
via post-organization which was founded in 1839 until the XIXth century. The state had made
use of these main roads that were determined to make its army reach to the front during the
campaigns. Furthermore, pilgrimage menzils(halting places) had been formed to render
service to pilgrim’s convoys and surre regiments on the Right Wing Route of Anatolia and
thanks to these menzils both surre regiments and pilgrims had got the opportunity of traveling
safely. Akşehir which was on the Right Wing Route of Anatolia had rendered service in
this system as both communication and pilgrimage menzils and military menzils for centuries.
