1530-1553 tarihleri
arasında nüfusta % 80 civarında bir artış yaşanmıştır. Bu artışta Osmanlı idaresi
altında sağlanan barış ortamının etkisi belirgindir. Bu nüfus artışında, konar-göçer
yerleşmesi ve göç etkili olmuştur. Sancak bu haliyle XVI. yüzyılın ortalarında gelişmesini
ve önemini arttırmış gözükmektedir.
Today Kigı is a sub-district attached to the Province of Bingöl, whereas in the
Ottoman period it was a small sanjak or sub-province in its own right, centred around
the town of Kigı. The sanjak came into being after the area was incorporated into the
Ottoman administration. According to the tahrir registers, the sanjak consisted of 214
villages and one town within 9 administartive divisions of nahiyes. In this mountainous
area the ratio of continuity in settlements from the XVIth century until the present time
is no less than 70 percent. As for the population, we see that there was an increase
around 80 percent between 1530 and 1553. It is obvious that the peaceful atmosphere
provided under the Ottoman rule had a considerable effect upon this, while settlement
of semi-nomad groups and immigrants also plaved their parts. It appears that the
sanjak showed a degree of development and increased its significance by the midsixteenth
century.
