Water entering into insulating membranes causes a threat to building structures in terms of their life and strength. Water entering the building structure causes corrosion to the carrier portion of the buildings and highly decreases their load carrying capacity. Water in the structure of building integrity, freezes in winter, and evaporates in summer and leads to formation of cracks and damages to the concrete. In the buildings; water which enters into the concrete leads to the formation of some organic materials, mold and fungi which are dangerous for the human health. Waterproofing membranes with diatomite have more thickness than the membranes which are produced with calcite. Diatomite membrane reached 3 mm thickness in 35 kg, but calcite membrane has reached the same thickness in 40 kg. Diatomite increased the power of water resistance membrane against acidic chemicals. After the chemical resistance against water resistance test, the diatomite-filled prototype sample yielded a higher water resistance to the pressure of 62 kPa. However, the calcite-filled waterproofing membrane lost its waterproofing properties in low pressure values such as 18 kPa. This is because the calcite can expose to 10% H2SO4, 5% HNO3, 10 % HCl and 10% CH3COOH acids which are used in the production of membrane and they enter the micro pores of calcite and changes its structure. Diatomite membrane resisted against acids and did not change its properties. Diatomite is a building material which is lighter and has much more chemical stability than calcite. Light membrane production will get advantage for carrying and carrying load of building. In this research, diatomite waterproofing membrane has more life than the calcite waterproofing membrane. In this thesis, the diatomite filled prototype membranes were compared with calcite filled membranes and it was seen that these new produced membranes have suitable performance values.
