Probleme Dayalı Öğrenme (PDÖ), öğretmen merkezli geleneksel öğretim metotlarından farklı
olarak, bireyin bir sorun karşısında nasıl çözüm üreteceğini kontrollü bir ortamda irdeleyen, öğrenci
merkezli, uygulamalı bir öğretim yaklaşımıdır. Doğal ortam ve insan arasındaki ilişkileri inceleyen
coğrafya, bu yöntemin en etkin kullanılabileceği bilimsel alanlardan biridir. Doğadaki değişimler, tüm
canlı hayatını, ya da ekosistemi etkilemekte ve bazı kannaşık sonuçlar doğuımaktadır. Örneğin küresel
ısınma günümüzde önemli bir coğrafi problem olup, Türkiye'de son yıllarda kış mevsiminin daha
ılıman geçmesi, tarımsal ürünlerin zamanından önce olgunlaşmasına ve kalitenin düşmesine neden
olmuştur. Yağışların azalması, havadaki mikropların artmasına, dolayısıyla üst solunum yolu
hastalıklarının artmasına yol açmaktadır. Görüldüğü gibi, küresel ısınma bir problemdir ve bu
problemin ortaya çıkış nedenleri, etkileri ve üretilebilecek çözümler, adım adım sorularla ve tartışılarak
bir sonuca bağlanabilir. Böyle bir yöntemi kullanarak ders yapmak, öğrencinin ilgisini çekerek onu
araştırmaya, düşünmeye sevk ederek kalıcı öğrenmeye neden olacakbr. Daha da önemlisi onu,
yaşadığı çevreye daha duyarlı hale getirecektir. Bu nedenle probleme dayalı öğrenme, oldukça etkili bir
öğretim yöntemi olarak coğrafya derslerinde mutlal<a kullanılmalıdır.
Apart from the teacher centered/oriented traditional teaching methods, problem based leaming is a
student based teaching approach which examines how the individual finds a solution when faced a
problem in a controlled environment. Geography which is interested in the relationships between
natural environment and human impac~ is one of the field of the sciences which can be used this
method in the geographical science effectively. The changes in the natura! environment affect the
whole life or ecosystem and cause some complex consequences. For example global warrning is one of
the serious problems, in resent year, the winter temperate climatic condition in Turkey has increased,
leads the early ripening and the lowering of agricultural protection. The decrease of the precipitation
causes the increase of respiratory illness. As is seen, global warming is a problem and, in order to
understand solve of lhe problems are necessary to leam the real reasons of the problems. This method
contributes the leaming of the environmental situation of students the importance of the environmental
image, concepts relating to the environment are clearly introduced, imaged consciousness by students.
The teaching method depending on problems definitely can be used in the geographical lesson as an
effective teaching method.
