Safahat'tan haraketle Mehmet Akif'in zamanını ve batıyı değerlendirişi

Abstract

Osmanlı Devleti’nin son yıllarına ve Türkiye Cumhuriyeti’nin ortaya çıkısına tanıklık eden Mehmet Akif Ersoy, imparatorluktan millî devlete geçişte ortaya çıkan birçok zorluğu bire bir yasar. Bu sıkıntılı dönemde yaşananlar, Avrupa’ya bakısı derinden etkiler ve zamanla, Türk milletinin gözündeki perdeyi kaldırarak Batı’nın maskesini düşürür. Kendi döneminde Akif, iste böylesine bir aydınlanma ateşini yakan insanlardandır. Doğu’yu, Batı’yı, yaşadığı coğrafyayı ve mensubu bulunduğu milleti çok iyi tanıyan yazar; Batı’nın ilmi değerlerinin ve birikiminin de farkındadır. O, Batı’nın birikimine düşmanca tavır takınmaz ve ayakta durabilmek, varlığımızı sürdürebilmek için ondan istifade edilmesi gerektiğini düşünür. Bu makalede, olumlu ve cezbedici taraflarının yanında Batı’nın bizim için tehlike arz eden yönleri, Akif’in Safahat’ından hareketle ortaya konulmaya çalışılacaktır.

Mehmet Akif Ersoy, testifying the last years of the Ottoman Empire and the Emergence of new Turkish Republic, personally experienced numerous challenges arising through the transition from empire to national state. The experiences dwelled during this troubled times deeply affected our view and removed the curtain in the eyes of Turkish nation, there by debunking the mask of the Western. Akif was one of the pioneers lighting such illumination era. The poet, well acquainted with the West, East, his geography and nation, was well aware of the scientific development sand accumulations of the West. He did not take a hostile stand against the reservoirs of the western and considered to make use of them to stand and survive. In the present manuscript, we aimed to reveal not only the affirmative and attractant aspects of the West but also its noxious sides using the Safahat, a well-known study of Akif.
