Bu makalede, Adıyaman’ın Anadolu coğrafyası ve tarihî bütünlüğü içindeki yeri ve
önemi belirtilerek kadim dinî inanç ve kültürel zenginliklerine dikkat çekilmiştir.
Adıyaman’ın Üryan Baba efsanesi ele alınmış ve bu efsanenin yöre halkının genel yasam
biçimine yansıması üzerinde durulmaya çalışılmıştır. Ardından Üryan Baba efsanesinin
tahlil denemesi yapılarak yöre insanı üzerindeki etkileri yorumlanmıştır. Adı geçen
efsanenin yöreden derlediğimiz üç yeni es metni efsane dünyamıza kazandırılmıştır. Söz
konusu efsanelerin yayılma alanları belirtilerek tip ve motif açısından Anadolu’daki diğer es
metinleri ile karşılaştırılmış, bunların birçok yönden benzer özellik taşıdığı görülmüştür.
Anadolu efsanelerindeki bu ortak motiflerin Anadolu kültürünün oluşmasına katkısı da
anlatılmaya çalışılmıştır.
In this paper, the place and significance of Adıyaman has been examined within the
framework of Anatolian geography, its historic unity, and the ancient religious beliefs and
cultural wealth rooted in Adiyaman has been thoroughly discussed. The main focus has
been on the Legend of Uryan Baba and its reflection into the daily-life practices of the
people in the region. The Legend of Uryan Baba has been analyzed and its effects on the
people in the region have been interpreted. Three new co-texts of the legend in the region
have been gained into our world of legend. After having been mentioned about the
distribution areas, these legends have been compared with their co-texts in Anatolia in
terms of type and motif, and they have been considered to bear some similar characteristics
in many ways. The function of the common features in the Anatolian legends in supplying
the Turkish cultural unity has been explained in this study.
