Urdu edebiyatında 19. yüzyıl sonlarında kullanılmaya başlayan nesir 20.
yüzyıl başlarında yaygın bir hale gelmiştir. Hikâye, Urdu edebiyatına batı
edebiyatlarından geçmiştir. Zamanla hikâye ve romanın en az şiir kadar kabul
görüp beğenilmesiyle, edebiyatçılar kendi toplumlarına özgü hikâyeler
yazmışlardır. Nitekim 20. yüzyıl ortalarına doğru nesir, nazımdan daha popüler
olmuştur.
The prose type in the Urdu literature has begun to used at the end of the
19th century and become widespread at the beginning of 20th century. Tale type
has been pass through the translations from western languages into Urdu
literature. Like poem after acceptance and approval of novel and tale type,
authors begun to write tales peculiar to their society. As a matter of fact; throught
the middles of 20th century prose excelled poetry.
