İnsanoğlu doğum, yaşam ve ölüm döngüsünün bir parçası olduğundan dolayı, gerek ölüm gerekse ölümden sonraki yaşam tarih boyunca toplumları cezbetmiştir. İnsanların ölen yakınlarını bir çukur açarak gömmeleri, zaman içerisinde mezarların ziyaret edilmesi ve dolayısıyla mezar yerlerinin işaretlenmesi gerekliliğini de doğurmuştur. Bu süreçten günümüze ulaşan ve mezarı örten toprak yığınının üzerine dikilerek mezarın yerini belirleyen mezar stelleri, tarih boyunca bu topraklarda çeşitli toplumların yaşadığının en önemli somut kanıtları olarak dönem insanına ve yaşantısına ışık tutmuştur. Günümüzde ise steller, mezar taşları olarak hayat bulmaya devam etmektedir. Çalışma kapsamında, Konya Arkeoloji Müzesi'nde teşhir edilen 25 adet üçgen alınlıklı ve iki adet saptanamayan mezar steli çeşitli yönleriyle değerlendirilmiştir. Steller üzerinde yer alan figürler, çoğunlukla aynı tiptedir ve tek başlarına, çift olarak ya da aile oluşturacak şekilde birkaç kişi yan yana betimlenmiştir. Bu ana figürlere de çeşitli hayvan figürleri ile motif ve objelerin eşlik ettiği görülmektedir. Müzede yer alan steller ayrıntılı olarak ele alınmadan önce, Lykaonia adının kökeni, bölgenin sınırları, coğrafi konumu, tarihi coğrafyası ve araştırma tarihi hakkında bilgi verilmiştir. Ardından antik çağda mezar stelleri ve stellerin gelişimine değinilmiş, müzede yer alan ve iki alt başlıkta incelediğimiz steller tipolojik, stilistik, ikonografik ve kronolojik açıdan değerlendirilerek benzerleriyle karşılaştırılmıştır.
Both death and life after death have been an attracting topic for societies throughout history, because human being is a part of the cycle of birth, life and death. At the beginning, people have buried their dying relatives by digging a hole. This, have revealed also the necessity of visiting graves over time and marking grave places. The grave steles which have reached to the present day from this process and determining the location of the grave by being planted on burial mound, shed light on the period person and their life as one of the most important concrete evidence of various societies living in this land throughout history. At the present time, grave steles continue to be used as grave stones. Within the scope of work, 25 grave steles with triangular pediment and two undetectable grave steles exhibited in the Konya Archaeological Museum have been evaluated from various aspects. The figures on the steles have been depicted same type and singly, in pairs or as family. These main figures are accompanied various animal figures with motif and objects. It is given information about the origin of Lykaonia name, the borders of the region, geographical location, historical geography and history of research, before the grave steles in the museum aren't evaluated in detail. Then, is mentioned that the development of grave steles and steles in ancient age. The steles in the museum which we examined in two subtitles have been evaluated in terms of typological, stylistic, iconographically and chronological and have been compared with the like examples.
